Volunteer Opportunities

What types of things do Volunteers do?

Below are the different volunteer positions/tasks we have and could always use more help with.

Volunteer - Clerical

  • Updating information in pet database
  • Data entry in spreadsheets
  • Schedule and follow up with fosters about upcoming vet appointments
  • Research and compile a list of bunny-friendly housing in Central Florida

Volunteer - Fundraising

  • Research and write grants to raise funds for the rescue

Volunteer - Application Team Assistant

  • Conduct public records searches (need consistent commitment ~5 hours/week)

Volunteer - Events

  • Pick up event supplies to bring to tabling events at pet stores/different venues
  • Set up and breakdown of ORCA tabling display materials
  • Manage lines/children if rabbits present
  • Represent ORCA at table, greet people, discuss ORCA's mission, direct people to ORCA resources for applying/donating
  • Reach out to businesses to seek interest in collaborating for events/fundraisers
  • Assist with annual online auction: contacting donors, tracking auction item inventory, packaging materials, posting items on website, and shipping to auction winners

Volunteer - Socialization [must be highly experienced]

  • Must be comfortable handling rabbits and understand bunny behaviors, especially when introducing bunnies for the first time and in a position to get scratched or bitten.
  • Bonder - sit in pens with bunnies for their first introductions during Bunny Speed Dating, prevent or stop bunny fights, and try to promote bonds to form. Stay in touch with families and provide advice throughout the bonding process.
  • Bunny Runner - bring bunnies to and from their dates during Bunny Speed Dating. Stay next to the bonding pen and be on standby to support the bonder. Help families select candidates for speed dating.

Volunteer - Education Outreach

  • Must be comfortable with public speaking and knowledgeable of proper rabbit care
  • Speak with the general public and answer questions about different bunny topics at tabling events or as a seminar.

Volunteer - Home Visitor

  • Visit homes of potential adopters/fosters with dogs. Must bring a bunny and xpen to see how the dog reacts. The xpen will help keep the bunny safe.

Volunteer - Transporter

  • BunEX - bring bunnies to potential adopter homes with all their supplies, provide education and answer any questions about rabbit care, demonstrate proper set-up
  • Transport Coordinator - take transport requests and coordinate with transporters to get requests filled and scheduled.

Transporter

  • Bunny Uber - transport bunnies to/from vet visits, events, foster homes

Volunteer - Social Media

  • Edit videos/create content for social media postings

Groomer

  • Bunny nail trims
  • Haircuts, removing large mats, cleaning up dried/dirty fur
  • Cleaning flea-infested bunnies

Volunteer - Sewing

  • Create pen covers or other supplies for rescue rabbits

Volunteer - Donor Team

  • Coordinate with individuals to pick up, distribute, or transport donated items
  • Track donated items inventory
  • Log donated items and monetary values for in-kind donation tax purposes

Trapping Volunteer

  • Assist with bunny wrangling to catch a dumped bunny outside. Usually early mornings or early evenings when bunnies are most active.
