Adopting vs. Fostering

Hopefully lots of love and snuggles! But also be mindful of the following:

• Rabbits are a 10-12 year commitment.
• Rabbits are considered an “exotic species which will require you to find a qualified vet (Find some great recommendations in Resources). Rabbits should still receive a yearly check up. Is your rabbit for a child? If so, are you ready to assume the responsibility when the novelty wears off?
• Is your rabbit for a child? If so, are you ready to assume the responsibility when the novelty wears off?
• Do you accept and understand that a rabbit's temperament and behavior is not like that of a dog or cat?
• Can you afford the expenses of food (pellets and fresh greens) hay, litter, toys, vet care, and all the other expenses that come with owning a rabbit?
• Will your other pets and those you plan to get in the future get along with your rabbit?
• Are you willing to keep your rabbit no matter how your circumstances change?

We take the placement of our rabbits very seriously and are dedicated to finding the right home for each rabbit. Our adoption policy is as follows:

• When a rabbit is adopted, the primary caregiver must be a responsible adult.
• The rabbit should be treated as an integral part of the family. We will not adopt out rabbits to be used for 4H club, classroom pets, or as pets for young children.
• If the rabbit is going to be alone and without the company of people for most of the day, we recommend the adoption of a second companion rabbit.
• If your situation changes in which the adopted rabbit needs to be returned, please give us advance notice as preparations need to be made to accept the rabbit back. Please use common sense and courtesy when returning a rabbit. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU RELEASE A RABBIT INTO THE WILD.
• Adoption fees are donations that cannot be refunded.
• We may ask to do a home inspection prior to releasing the rabbit to its adoptive owner.
